Advisory: Seasonal Restrictions to Protect Peregrine Nesting Begin February 1st

California State Parks will soon enforce seasonal restrictions in two (2) areas of Mount Diablo State Park to protect Peregrine Falcon nesting.

Please do not enter the area closures from February 1 through July 31

Area Closures:

Area 1 includes park lands East of Stage Fire Road, North of the Sunset Trail, West of Falcon Fire Road, and South of the park boundary. That area includes Castle Rock Trail near Falcon Road and Diablo Foothills Regional Park trails that start in Pine Canyon.

Area 2 closure zone includes all trails, rocks, and utility roads North of Black Hawk Ridge Road and South of Knobcone Point Road. Area 2 includes a popular, non-system trail used frequently by mountain bikers, climbers and hikers.

Please Abide

The Area 1 and Area 2 closures are critical to the nesting success of peregrine falcons, a protected species.

Peregrines are highly sensitive to human activities and perceived threats. To protect the peregrine falcons nesting period, please abide by the temporary closures.

Thank You for Your Cooperation.
