Our mission is simple:
Safer, better trails
Greater access
Better trail etiquette
For the benefit of all state park visitors
-
Since launching in October 2023, MDTA has partnered with California State Parks (CSP) to build a sustainable and impactful Shared Stewardship model.
We recruit and train volunteers of all ages to maintain trails during Dig Days. CSP reviews and manages each Dig Day project. The impact so far includes:
10+ miles of trail tread improvements
800+ volunteers involved
Over 5,000 hours of community-powered trail work at Mount Diablo State Park
-
Your generous gift supports the implementation and long-term achievement of the three main goals of MDTA’s Trails 2030 Strategic Plan:
Sustainable trails stewardship program
Greater access to singletrack trails for more state park visitors
Better trail etiquette practices and awareness
-
Trails stewardship: Maintain and repair 30+ miles of trails in five years at Mount Diablo State Park
Greater access: Propose 10+ miles of singletrack trails to be evaluated for change in use (CIU) to multi-use bike-friendly, which can improve 1) circulation and connector options and 2) general safety conditions
Currently, hikers/runners and equestrians can access 100% and 99.5%, respectively, of Mount Diablo State Park’s 52.5 miles of singletrack trails.
In contrast, off-road cyclists can access only 18% of singletrack trails.Better trail etiquette practices: Promote trail etiquette education program and bike bell giveaways to improve all trail user groups’ awareness of each other and their potential impact on the environment
