Another Awesome, Community Powered Dig Day!

Announcement - February 11, 2026

There was so much trail goodness at Mount Diablo State Park this past Saturday!

100 volunteers joined California State Parks and Mount Diablo Trails Alliance, improving Lower Summit Trail (Dan Cook Singletrack) with a focus on accessibility, sustainability and surface water drainage using proven techniques.

A large contingent of students attended this Dig Day, and it was truly inspirational, as they represented more than 50% of the volunteers. The students helped improve the trail despite unfriendly, rock-hard soil conditions.

Huge Turnout from Off-road Cyclists

We’d like to recognize the local mountain bike teams who gave up their Saturday to give back to the State Park:

  • CC Composite MTB

  • MVHS MTB

  • SRV MTB

They showed up on time for the early start and engaged in a thoughtful discussion with the California State Parks Diablo Range District Superintendent, Clint Elsholz.

There were many inclusion-based topics covered during the Q&A session with Mr. Elsholz, including:

  • Responsible recreation practices

  • Differences in safety and bike accident rates on trails vs. fire roads

  • Change-in-Use process for singletrack trails

  • Potential pilot concept ideas (e.g., Briones) for expanding off-road cycling access to singletrack trails beyond the 2016 RTMP

Raffle Sponsors
Another huge shoutout goes to all the sponsors who gave generously to support raffle prizes for the students:

· Mike’s Bikes, Walnut Creek

· First Mile Cycle Works, Lafayette

· Sports Basement

· Hank and Frank, Lafayette

· Alamo Bike and Snowboard

· Danville Bike

Sunlight. Camera. Action.
We recognize the professional photography services of David Cervenka Photography, who gracefully and skillfully captured the community spirit and togetherness of the Dig Day. The candid moments of teamwork and purposeful stewardship showcase why Better Trails matter.

Help Us Sustain the Stewardship Momentum
If you cannot join us for Dig Days, sign the Trails 2035 Petition and Donate, affirming that Better Trails | Greater Access are important to the community for many reasons, including recreation, personal renewal or wellness, and conservation.

Mount Diablo Trails Alliance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, currently raising funds for rare plant surveys and environmental studies to propose and secure 1) more singletrack trails access for off-road cyclists beyond the 2016 RTMP recommendations and 2) the construction of two ADA-compliant trails on the mountain.

Sign-and-Share the Trails 2035 Petition
The Trails 2035 petition signature registry will be presented to the California State Parks Diablo Range District Superintendent as part of our next Phase II change-in-use (CIU) submission in Winter 2026.

The petition drives starts with you. After signing, share the petition weblink with friends, family and neighbors who value the trails and Nature-based experiences and connections.

“The Trails 2035 petition drive represents a generational opportunity to come together and affirm that better trails and greater access truly matter.

Bikes belong. It’s time to get along and share the trails.”

Make a Charitable Donation

Help us reach our inaugural fundraising milestone of $50,000 by March 1, 2026. Trails 2035 will not achieve its ambitious goals without community funding, especially given costs associated with the change-in-use (CIU) process, ADA-compliant trail construction projects, and trail maintenance projects conducted in sensitive species zones.

Mount Diablo Trails Alliance (MDTA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit trails stewardship and access advocacy organization. MDTA is volunteer led, building a Shared Stewardship model with California State Parks, focusing on Better Trails | Greater Access for all park visitors. Federal Tax ID # 99-4480469.
