We have provided talking points below to help guide responses. Please personalize your message where possible, personal stories and perspectives carry a lot of weight.

Why Does This Public Comment Period Matter?
Special interest groups are pushing for Alameda Tesla to be designated a Reserve, which would severely restrict access for most recreational users and overnight campers.

Mount Diablo Trails Alliance strongly opposes the Reserve classification option for the Alameda Tesla property. This designation places unnecessary restrictions against recreation across the entirety of the park, limiting much needed outdoor opportunities, especially for residents of Livermore, Tracy and the surrounding Central Valley.

Your support is critical to ensure Alameda Tesla becomes a welcoming place for all state park visitors and trail user groups. Decisions made here can impact future access policies at other California state parks.

Our Talking Points (focusing on Greater Access for All):

  • Designate Alameda Tesla as a State Park or State Recreational Area  to welcome the broadest base of users, while protecting natural, cultural, and recreational resources for generations to come.

  • Recreation and Conservation can co-exist. Recreational access provides visitors direct connection to nature and open space, which fosters conservation and awareness practices.

  • The land was not intended for management by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.  Recreation should be given priority alongside conservation.

  • Please keep all singletrack trails and fire roads open to hikers/runners, off-road cyclists, and equestrians.

  • If rare plants and species are of concern at Alameda Tesla ask: How does Alameda Tesla compare to Mount Diablo, Henry Coe or Mount Tamalpais state park units?  These parks have long since balanced conservation with responsible recreation welcoming off-road cyclists and equestrians to both trails and fire roads for generations.

  • Develop equestrian staging areas. Currently, the two plan concepts seem to discourage equestrian access.

  • Build ADA compliant trails (beyond just fire roads) throughout the unit.

  • Approve campground sites at the Alameda Tesla unit, similar to how Mount Diablo, Henry Coe and Mount Tamalpais allow for campgrounds.

Your Action is Needed: Please take 5 minutes to complete the survey before October 31. Your input will help shape the future of Alameda Tesla and set a precedent for recreation access across the state park system.
